Ford might consider a GT40
I just got my new issue of Autoweek and they have an article on Ford cosidering making a production GT40. The car they have pictures of has a 5.4 litre V8 that puts out 500 hp and 500 ft/lb of torque!!! So, would you want one of those???????

be still my thumping heart
First off let me say I am not a Ford fan. No way, no how. Second I will say I have a picture of a '69 Ford GT40 in my office. The car is beautiful! It is all things good and fast to me. I saw the article in AutoWeek and I could not believe it! Ford came to market (at least that is the rumor) with the redone Thunderbird and supposedly with the '49 Concept so they seem to have the mentality of going a bit retro for ideas. If they were to bring the GT40 back to life I would hold Ford in a much higher opinion. I would not buy one because I would spend my money on something else, but that is not to say I do not like it. I'm very impressed with the pictures.
As a die-hard Ferrari fan, even I have to admit the GT40 kicked Ferrari but, back in its day.

The biggest fault I can see is that the car looks better with older-styled wheels than those modern ones. It definitely needs knock-off hubs and maybe wire spokes? Other than that, it's awesome. Here's a comparison:

I believe there may be a legal issue about knock-off hubs. Not even todays cars have those anymore. Although it would be cool.
Back in the 70s I went to a race at MidOhio ant they had an actual GT40 on display from a guy that lived near me (although I didn't know it at the time). IAs my friend and I were looking at it, I tried the door and found that I could open it. I went back to my friend and told him to take some pictures of me in the car. I went back to the car, opened the door and got in while my friend took pictures. Afterwards, the owner approached me and ripped me a new one. I realize that took a lot of nerve on my part, but I just couldn't pass it up. However, I now have pictures of me in a real GT40.

Should they build it? Yes. Will they build it? Most likely not.
Even if they did, they should call it the GT43. I read in one of the car mags that as a compromise to comfort and convenience the car's overall height would be 43.5 inches.
I don't care about any other design aspect of the car, but if they're going to call it the GT40 it needs to be 40 inches tall, or 40.5 as the original was. Frankly I don't think Ford has the nads to do it.
The original GT40 was a beautiful car and I'd hate to see its image tarnished (even if it's only in my own mind) by a half-assed latter-day reproduction.

There are two reasons we won't see knock-offs:
1. The knock-off nut is a pedestrian hazard.
2. Having only one nut means the wheel installer needs only to make one mistake for the wheel to fall off.
