Thing is, if they bump the price but keep power at 200 hp, they're going to be fighting the V6 Mustang and Camaro and 2.0T Genesis for buyers in that price range (mid-$20K). It'll have to be awfully light to keep up with the first two.

If they could do 225 hp in the base model and 270+ hp in the top model, I think they'd have a lot better case. Light and quick with moderate power will trump heavy and very powerful for me and, hopefully, a lot of other buyers.
I think this is spot on.

The question I have is are they going to make this another entry in a somewhat crowded segment of sporty coupes, or are they going to make it stand out by offering a real sportscar at an entry level price?

Sounds like the goals of high mileage and higher price fly against what most of us were hoping this car would be, but I'll reserve judgement till we see what the finished product is and how much it costs in USD.

Alot of competition in this market. It needs to be either super affordable or balls to wall faster than the comp.

Toyota just released a new image of the reworked FT-86 concept:

Toyota wanted more mpg, a cleaner engine, and design for a slightly older crowd, then decided that older crowd needed more space since it probably has a family. Don't worry though, its still gonna be a "sporty hatchback"!

Pricing should be in the mid $30s, and to avoid price runs, you'll only be able to lease them, with $25k down at signing.

If it comes with less than 220hp and an 8k RPM redline I'll be buying a Genesis Coupe instead. This price bump better seal the deal that they are going to deliver the goods as before there was a lot of speculation about it only having 180hp.

HAHA!!

Mark my words, this car is not coming in at less than 3,000lbs and over 200hp. I will eat my crow if it does.
