Your math is too simple, as there are many things that do not get included in that profit; like warranty repairs. You cannot estimate what warranty repairs will be as they will vary model by model and if you knew what would fail, it would have been designed better.

Ford use to make close to $10,000 on the Explorer. Add all the lawsuits in for the rollovers, tire replacements, etc plus all the discounts on the new model and probably 0% financing, how much is Ford really making?

That is real old news. That agreement was signed at least two years ago. So now GM has a good engine and transmission, but the suspension will still suck, the frame will twist and flex like a rubber band, the interior will have everything in the wrong place and feel as cheap as a happy meal toy. I take that back, it will feel cheaper then a happy meal toy; don?t forget the squeaks and rattles.
Iam not saying you will get a Honda for a Chevy price, but like I said, a small step, but one in the right direction.

I want to see some action! No more words, they mean as much as what comes out of a dealer's mouth...

What action would that be? Push, pull or tow your car in for its monthly service visit.

The only time I have seen GM do anything is to send a mechanic out to a marina on the Fourth of July weekend to repair a transmission. I kid you not; the mechanic was working on the trans. Then again, the owner worked for GM. Anyone else, sorry, you are SOL and too bad you can?t rent a loaner, but due to being a holiday, you can't.

GM will never do anything, they keep hoping a small percentage of the public will buy their spiel and they sell a few more cars. They have screwed too many customers for them to start caring now.

They still have not addressed their dealer issue; they suck.

I don't know if it's all the dealers but I went to 3 Chevy dealers and was treated like dirt. If GM owns Saturn and they have such a great dealership network, why don't they start with that? Treat the customers with respect.

Oh well if the public won't buy domestic cars there's always the rental fleets (owned by the automakers).

Just saw an ad for an 03 cavilier for $12K, MSRP $18K. You ever wonder why they depreciate so bad? If any poor sucker paid near sticker will be upside down for a long time.

The rental fleet has been getting more and more foreign cars, but I also think it depends on where the rental location is as well. Ford used to own a majority in one, I think AVIS and now it looks like they offer GM vehicles now. The automakers could be dumping their share of the rental companies to boost their bottom line, at least temporarily. I know Ford used to push as many tortoises to their rental company to help make it the best selling car in America. Ford did have something in terms of sales to compete with Honda and Toyota. Then they redesigned it and sales, well, plummeted or stayed stagnant as Toyota and Honda made leaps and bounds.

You weren't treated like dirt; that is "The GM Experience" that they keep talking about.

I remember hearing about a guy who bought a Ford Aspire. After he owned it for 18 months to two years, he decided he wanted something else. Went to the dealer they offered him a few grand for the car, he was angry, as he still owed close to $10,000 on it. How is that for a screw job? You can't blame the dealer as they don

I know what you mean about quality, I have a 99 Passat with 75K on the odo. And while it hasn't been as trouble free as I'd like. The actual car still feels and drives 90% like it did when it was brand new.

I had it detailed professionally and it looks like it's one year old.
