Jetta TDI's get ridiculous mpg, and can get even better with a chip (and you'll add noticeable horsepower, too).

The only thing I would've said that hasn't been mentioned is an E36 3 series.

IS300... simply b/c of reliability factor... will last probably till 300k miles...
but does get worse gas mileage than s2000... 18 city/25 hwy

It actually gets crap gas mileage. I never recorded anything higher than 21MPG during my entire ownership. I wouldn't even call it a Luxury car, it's just a nicer Toyota.

Compared to newer Toyotas, the IS300 is horrible.

Why do you say that? There are a lot of people that worship them but I can't see why. For a daily drive there are much better options out there.
