Whats your definiton of a "Ricer"? I recently came to realize that everyone has a different definition of what a ricer is.

I personally feel its a car, not nessicarily a import 4 cylinder, that has primor body pieces, meaningless engine mods, and the occasional stickers or huge wing. Oh yeah and those damn windshield nozzle lights, I hate those things.

Also please note why you are not a ricer, and don't say its because you dirve a $30,000 Honda.

 

I think a ricer is 2 things i guess.
1. A car that has nothing but junk on it, maybe a beatup car that has no chance in hell of ever being labeled as fast. The fart can exhaust, the 1 million stickers (which often do not correspond with the parts that are offered for the car), the springs that have been cut so the car bounces like a bobble head doll on every little bump, those tacky ass windhield sprayer lights (Gawd i hate those). Basically a cheap ol junk pile with a bunch of junk added to it I suppose.
and
2. Those who do such things to their cars, who know not what they are doing or terrible taste.

 

I say we don't even comment on them for why comment on such trash.

 

I dont have a definition as I think we're all car enthusiasts, just with different tastes and budgets, thats all.

 

dolemike got it pretty much right on. i concure with his statements about misleading stickers and bobble-head-doll physics. jdm doesn't mean rice.. nor body kits or flashy wings or rims.. its just shitty cars with shitty parts.

 

I agree with all of you. I just feel sympathetic to Civic and Integra owners who get called ricey by some people here for having an exhaust. I understand that some of those guys are ricey, if your rims cost more than the car or you spent money on a body kit instead of getting existing damage fixed. They deserve to be made fun of. Just seems like there are some people here, mostly newbies, who feel they are better than every other Honda.

 

By all means, to each their own. Not everyone is going to like the same thing, but there are just some things that are rediculous. Im not going to knock anyone for having a different taste than I do or anything of the sorts, but when you got a HUGE drag racing tachometer all up in the window and your car cant even make a qtr mile in 19 seconds and you got an automatic

Everyone's had a sticker or two in there past.... I don't think that defines "rice". Neither does a huge wing.... IMO.

Some cars that people would call rice actually have decent aftermarket parts.

The comment was made about different taste for different budgets.......which I find true.

I think the most important thing that constitutes "rice" are badges, decals, emblems and stickers that are placed on the car to imply it is the faster, turbo or top of the line version of the car. Stickers by themselves do not constitute speed.

I've got a Mugen and Comptech license plate cover on my car but I don't think it's rice. Maybe others do...

 

Things that contribute to riceness:
Fartcans, JC Whitney Supra wings, aluminum air foils freshly stamped from the local machine shop, primered bodykits that just couldn't wait to be seen on the town, hydraulics in a "sport compact", R34 front clips on ANY car other than a Skyline, Skyline taillights on ANY car other than a Skyline, gawdy Altezzas (very few look good), Washer LEDs, Shift knob LEDs, 6" dual exhausts on your Escort, grafting in parts from cars made by other manufacturers (see above), vinyl flat-colored flames cut and applied by DIYers, stick-on pinstriping stencils, spinner hubcaps, low-riding a Focus, Laying Krylon on interior bezels to match exterior color, yellow-performance, stickers=performance, vapor-blasting BOVs, BOVs in general, spinner wheels, Type R badges, GTR badges, SiR badges, "power bulge" hoods, using script-style or serif fonts anywhere on the car, piston-driven rotary engines with turbo superchargers in a Mustang, ...


That's a partial list for me. I'm sure I could think up about 100 more.

Basically for me, "rice" is more visual than anything. If you are incapable of discerning and tactfully applying stylistic elements to your car in an intelligent manner, you're automatically rice.
