Head Gasket replacement on '90 Corolla?
Hey folks,
I have a 1990 Corolla that has a blown head gasket. Anyone have any idea how much it would cost or how many hours it would take a mechanic to replace? I just discoverd this a few days ago and have since stopped using the car.

If you can't do it yourself it may be worth while to scrap the car.
The procedure would involve removing everything that is attached to the head which would include your intake and exhaust manifold, the timing belt and any ancillary wires, cruise control cables, etc. that may be attached to it. Once you have all of that stuff off, removing the head is pretty simple. The head will have to be machined which typically runs about 80 bucks. Then you have to put it back together replace the head gasket and reinstall the head. The intake manifold gasket and other gaskets will likely be destroyed and will need to be replaced. You should also replace the timing belt, water pump, etc. while you have everything apart.
