HID KIT?
I have a 99 CBR600 F4 and i was wondering if it's a H4 or H7 bulb? and for those who have already installed HID, what type or kind of kit should i get? and what K's....6000k and such. Thanks lots.
I swapped a HID kit into my FJR (H4's). It was a big-time pain to fit everything cleanly. The various parts and a harness you cannot splice (high voltage) is a lot to hide. My McCullach (sp?) two-capsule/ignitor/ballast kit with harness was $300-ish in a group buy, shipped direct from China.
I went with bi-xenon (12v powered shutters) capsules. I have no idea about your F4's bulb but my advice is go for a low-beam-only kit. While my high-beam works, it adds almost nothing to the beam because the arc location is fixed (low beam perfect, high beam not in the focal spot). I have heard some moving-capsule designs that fix this issue fail more often.
Holy cow did it seriously improve my light output (which wasn't awful to start with)! I did some on-the-wall comparisons with my buddies' bikes. I'm throwing daylight and their beams look stone-age dim by comparison! The light spread is fine, despite dire warnings by some on-line purists, and I've got the cut-offs adjusted just right, so nobody is flashing at me when I ride. I've been running them almost two years now with no visible reflector/clear cover damage or darkening from increased heat.
My HID temperature is, IIRC, below 6,000 (only a hint of blue) for best visibility. I also want to avoid encounters with Johnny Law since, again IIRC, they are not DOT-legal.
All-in-all one of my favorite mods.

You shouldn't have to worry about HID heating up to damage your housings. HID runs much cooler than Halogen and consumes less energy (which on a bike isn't a bad Idea). I've been contemplating Getting HID for my RR for a while. It's just the logistics of Putting away the ballasts cleany when I install them.
I installed the HID kit this evening. It took about 1 1/2 hour to do it. I spent most of the time trying to figure out where I was going to mount the Ballasts. I did the High Beam side first since it was toggled by a switch.
I apologize for not taking a ton of pics, I wanted to finish before my wife came home and saw me taking apart a brand new motorcycle.
This is my installation on an '06 1000RR
The Kit: Included Bulb, Ballast, Ignitor, Harness, 3M tape, and wire ties.
I bought a McCulloch Kit because I've had experience with them before and they're really high quality. Plus the seperate Ballast/Ignitor and Lengthy Harness Adaptor gave me flexibility on installation. This is a 6000K kit BTW
The Bulb: H7. Included an addtional Rubber Plug to seal out debris. It's not pictured here. You have to squeeze the two HID wires through the OEM seal, and also Push the Rubber plug through.

Since this was the first time installing HID on a motorcycle I just wired everything up from the outside to make sure I had everything in the right place and didn't put the connectors backwards.

Works! Flash was OFF.

The Bulb mounted and the Seal and plug installed:

Here's where I began to hurry and stopped Taking Pics.

I can only describe from here out.
This side was the trickiest since I started here. I ended up Mounting the Ignitor Below the High beam side. The Wires were Zip tied Neatly and run along side the Coolant over flow tank. I Mounted the Ballast VIA Hi-Temp 3M Mounting Tape to the Radiator Endtanks. This wil be temporary until I can make some Brackets and mount them somewhere Else. There's not a whole lot of room since the Mid Fairing Hugs the Frame so closely.
The Main light was much easier since I had already done one side, and there's more space. I mounted the Ballast to the Radiator End Tank, but I mounted the Ignitor next to the Factory Wiring. So it's pretty clean under there. When I install my Flush mount signals I'll remember to take Pics again.
The Final Product:

I may have to lower the high beam becasue it's SO bright when it's on.

Yep, that's the good stuff. Thanks for pics. I was too lazy to stop for photos of my install. I was also too busy scratching my head and cursing (partly at my tricky fairing disassembly). They need to shrink the ballast and ignitor just a little bit more!
Another benefit is your buddies can tell that's you behind them even at a fair distance during the day.
