Poor aftermarket? I think it has to do more with local companies now making quality stuff thereby taking the market away from HKS. We some things that are actually better quality for a bit cheaper now in the states. As of the last decade or so, the HKS brand dialed back on quality on a lot of their parts, and sold pretty much off name brand recognition. Had they continued to make high quality products across the board, they'd probably be fine.
