How does the s2000 compares with 300zx NA?
Hi there,
Hopefully I won't get flamed for this, but I would like to know how the 300zx NA (Z32) compares to the s2000 in terms of performance and handling and overall impression.
The spec of the 300zx NA is as followed :
Engine type VG30DE
Type Water cooled V6 DOHC 24 valve
Bore

Sorry bud, there is no comparison between either car. The naZ is extremely heavy and the 222 hp it has barely get it moving. If the NA Z is an auto, the difference between the cars is even more dramatic.
The S2000 will "stump" a na Z in acceleration, cornering, drag, autox, handling, braking and even in a hot dog eating competition.
The S2000 would better compare against a stock 300Z TT (z32).
My 03. cents

The S2000's have 240hp vs. the 222hp of the naZ. The difference though however is on the weight. The naZ hogs the S2K by about 700lbs...that is the equivalent of hauling 4 very lard girls on your hatch....
S2000's hit the 1/4 mile anywhere between 13.8 - 14.4 in stock form @ around 100mph.
300Z NA would hit the 1/4 mile anywhere between 15.5 - 16.5 in stock form @ around 93 mph...the difference here is pretty extensive. Highly modded NA's (w/o FI) are hitting it @ 14.2-14.4 @ 100 - 101...mph
As far as cornering I am not sure about the gforce but after driving both of them I can tell you it is like night and day (difference in favor of the S of course).
The only place where the NA is superior to the S is in torque numbers. The S is by no means a torquee car. You have to keep the revs up high in order to mantaing the hp and get the most of it but once you learn how to do it, it is pretty rewarding

Guys - we're being a little hard on a very good car here. The S2000 is a hard-edged sports car. The 300zx is a comfortable grand tourer. If you're looking for better performance, yes the N/A 300zx would get spanked by an equally driven S2000. However if you drive long distances, regularly need to transport anything bigger than a medium sized duffle bag, or like to hear your radio, the 300ZX will make you much happier.
The last generation Z car looks fabulous for it's age. I had a Diamond Black Pearl one. BIG difference between the Z and the S2k as everyone else has mentioned - weight. The Z was a great cruiser but it had a lot of minor fit and finish issues that really irritated me and on the track it really felt almost ponderous because of the weight.
If you want a Z that'll match up with the S2k, you need the turbo version. It really drove like a NA car, IMO. No excessive lag and had ample power on the bottom and really started to go when wound up.

I do miss that car at times, but it was kind of jinxed. It was even dinged a bit on the way up to Seattle on the transport truck (I ordered tan leather with the black exterior and they had to get one from Portland) There was a snowstorm the day I was supposed to pick it up... then I was hit by a golf ball... sideswiped on the street... damaged by shopping carts at Costco... I got multiple tickets in that thing... it had to go.
