How will this law affect a CAI?
I know this law has been discussed in other threads, but one line in the article referenced on this thread (www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=365133) has me a specifically concerned about my CAI.
I was under the impression that my AEM CAI is DOT legal. I am a 32 year old businessman who has nothing to do with illegal racing and I do not dress or behave in a manner that would lend someone to believe that I am. However, I have had a couple of the Bay Area's finest pull me over for my headlights, claiming that they are after-market and not DOT legal. They then took the liberty of inspecting my car for illegal aftermarket add-on's. It took quite a bit of convincing both times to get them to believe that my car was completely stock from the factory. I have also heard of individuals with EVO's & STI's getting harassed about their stock wing. What I am concerned about is if I get pulled over again, will I have a problem with my CAI? This article leads me to believe that I will. Does anyone have any knowledge in this area?
"At a stop on Watt Avenue, Frost asked for more than license, registration and proof of insurance. Like the other 130 officers trained by the Drag-Net program, Frost wanted to get a look under the hood.
He said the 1997 Acura Integra had an illegal air filter..... The car's registered owner, who was not present during the stop, will have to keep the car off the street until the state Bureau of Automotive Repairs certifies that the illegal parts have been removed."

Keeping a tag or other identification of the CARB certification number with you in the car should make the pig, er, cop back off.
Um, yeah, the weather really IS that nice, my house is worth a castle somewhere else, and our back roads are awesome.
I read about "The Dragon" and then I hear it is 11 miles long? That's not a road. That's a soundbite, like Ortega highway (not a bad bite but small). Try Angeles Crest Highway, Route 33, or some of the Palomar mountain roads. Now THOSE are roads! (and I'm just talking So Cal here and they're not all we have)

If your intake is truely 50 state legal, it should come with a CARB EO# (California Air Resources Board Executive Order Number). If the EO# is ON the intake, you shouldn't receive a ticket for it.
Of course, you might, and then you might have to go to court. But sadly, that's the risk in modding your car, even if it's 100% legal.
