Default Hyundai Tiburon

Well my girlfriend's 97 Eclipse is falling apart and we are looking to get her another car. I REALLY want to wait until the Honda Fit/Jazz comes stateside but I've heard rumors of it not coming until Fall of 2006 now. (Does anyone know for sure?) So we were thinking of getting her a used Tiburon. I've seen them going for $4000-$7000 in the paper and I think she could handle those payments pretty easily. Has anyone had any experience with the Tiburon, are they pretty reliable? Any known major problems with them? Any other recommendations? She's looking to stay under $7,000 if she doesn't get the Honda Fit.

Thanks

The Tiburon always got decent reviews.

As far as reliabilty, all I know is that my co-worker's mechanic told him to stay away from it.

Here's a Tiburon forum, if you want to do some more research:

Well, it is a USED Hyundai, and even though they are improving a lot, they currently still have below average reliability.

What's the price cap? When the Fit comes out, ther'es most likely goign to be a huge markup since it is new. What kind of car is she looking for? Judging by the Eclipse and the Tiburon, is she into the import tuning scene? She can have some fun w/ a EK Civic for like $4000 and not worry about reliability. It will be smaller than the Eclipse and Tiburon though, so that may be an issue.

Lice Locket, she's not really into the import scene. She just wants a reliable 4 seater that gets good gas mileage. She doesn't really care about what kind of car, but I would like her to stick with an import.

Yeah I saw your post, I sure hope it does.

Might have to pick up two of them, one for her and one for myself.

thats an amateur forum....this is the hardcore tiburon forum

www.newtiburon.com

anything you need to know about tiburons....and I do mean anything

I have a 03 tiburon and 82000 miles on it....i believe I have the third highest mileage on newtiburon.com......no major issues for me so far.....stock michelin tires lasted me 55k miles, brake pads + rotors lasted 65k.....main problems with the 2003 tiburons are: the sunroof will get stuck, door actuator will go out often and poor connectors made for the power window motors.....these problems went away from 2004 up.....awesome car for the price tag.....but $7k probably wont get you a used 2003 tho

how about a 2000 Celica GT.. You should easily be able to find one in the price range. It doesn't have the go that the GT-S does, but 140hp is still pretty good in the 2500lbs car.

Don't the Hyunda have a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty?
