Unlike Porsche they don't need to do this to make money. With F1 and selling Ferrari trinkets everywhere, I'm sure they have enough money.

I read somewhere (everybody groan here). . . .

Fiat is doing the high-end SUV with the Maserati (I said that, right?), and that it is under development using a very familiar, European (namely, German) SUV platform. . .
