335xi

I find it interesting that people often compare the M3 with the S4. A much better comparison would be the 335xi with the S4, the M3 is closer to the RS4.
S4 gives you 333hp @ $47k, while the 335xi gives you 300hp @ $43k. M3 is 414hp @ $56k and rumors say 470hp from the new RS4. So they don't exactly line up, but for $35k I would have a few year old 335xi.

*edit
I know there is more to these cars than the two numbers I listed, but it gives a rough idea.

Pass on the evo for a DD.

Watch any review on the evo and sti, they all say pick the sti for a dd and the evo for a track day.

Subaru is also safer and more reliable/long lasting.

I love my STi and its been very reliable. Plenty of people have 150k+ miles on sti's with no unscheduled maintenance.
Ok thanks, I will keep that in mind. I have never been a fan of the "bug-eye" look, but after the redesign the STI sedan looks very good.

i'd say IS350 which you can probably get new or new Mustang GT
maybe evo if you want people to think u are the younger crowd
or sell the s2k and move up to the gt-r
I know the GT-R is a fantastic car, but I don't think I want to make that "jump" yet. I'd rather begin tracking my car and then when I feel I need something more look into the next segment.

IS350 would probably be worth a test drive at least.

#8.... It's what i did. Save some money. I could afforded to buy a car substantially more expensive. I have my s2000, H3, and i just leased a GTI for my daily. I was looking at 911s, maseratis; etc. I decided to get the GTI as a nice daily, have $$$ to boost the S again, and invest in some real estate.
That's a good point. Boost is really expensive I also might want to get a house sometime in the next 4-5 years which would be hard with a high car payment. But at the same time, I drive every day, so I want something to be fun.

A5. When it comes down to dd audi is one of the best.

In audi world I would look into getting 3rd party warranty. I think fidelity through dealership is pretty good. If u can go a lil higher on price there is a red rs4 with less than 5000 miles in Portland Oregon. Check out Portland craigslist if u can't find it pm me.

Take a look at a WRX if it's going to be your daily-- just a tad more reasonable than an STI, and insurance is like 1/5th the cost. Very helpful if you need to deal with snow, but still want a car that is going to be fun.

I'd also look at like a 335 or 135i. Close enough to an M, but just makes more sense for a daily.

I have considered the 335 xi...I actually drove an 07 335i sedan, and while it felt good when the turbos kicked in hitting the freeway on-ramp, once I got up to 75ish it didn't feel very buttoned down. Other than the power, it felt like a Camry, I just wasn't impressed. Yet, it wasn't as smooth on bumps as a Camry. The guy was saying the optional Sport Package should help this, but I haven't driven one with a sport package.

THIS.

a lot of the cars you've listed are pretty pricy and/or flashy. maybe it's just me, but a daily should fly under the radar a bit and be relatively cheap to maintain/insure, and offer some utility.

if you plan on getting a house in a few years, perhaps you should steer away from a 40-45k type payment and reduce your debt as much as possible. just food for thought!

Slightly used Evo X. Can't argue with a STI either but it's a bit..ugly.

WRX > STI imo for daily living, cost, etc.
