I looked for a turbo mr2 for a few weeks - they are either so tweaked/fried you don't want them or so expensive I bought the s2000 instead. I think the last year was a 97?? great car though if you are lucky and find a clean one, they are incredible, I just gave up looking and bought a new car. Found a lot of non turbo versions. And bayarea408 is right about the rx-7, my neighbor has one of the late model ones and at 60k, new engine. And it is an automatic which he doesn't seem to drive hard.

An MR2 Turbo equipped with the 3SGTE engine is a GREAT project car ... my friend has one and is putting down about 450 hp's with about an equal amount of torque as well. That thing hauls a$$! Really fun cars.
He paid about $5000 for it I think but bought it from a friend. I believe it's a '91 model. |
ok i found my car.
Miata. i have the stereoid version :D soo im gonna see how similar in handling these cars are. plus there are alot of aftermarket parts for this car, it would be a fun car to toy with. |
i like the new mr2. too bad its not turbo... the newer mr2 is like a toyota s2000, just not fast. hehe

MR2 Turbos are great cars but they are old. You can find a good low mileage Turbo but they're usually overpriced. Finding a good one will definitely be the hardest part and basically the only thing stopping me from buying another MR2. The same goes w/ the RX-7. Personally, I don't think RX-7's have reliability problems, just owner problems. They're really high maintenance cars and a lot of the owners out there don't know enough about the car. I think the S2000 or Miata would be a good alternative. Both are great handling cars like the MR2. Turbo/SC Miatas are great sleepers too.
