Default idea for car invention

dont dismiss it so quickly.

imagine you have a corolla or some other car that sounds horrible. there's a mic in the engine bay, picks up the sounds and translates it on pre-determined octaves to sound like ferrari revs. then outputs it to the car's internal stereo system. there would be a switch so you could turn it on and off.

flame on, but u can't deny that u might get one

I don't like false sound.

Although you might argue that a muffler creates a slightly false sound, it's actually real sound coming from my engine that is being distorted and twisted to sound pleasing.

It just sounds like something a ricer would do. Like playing BOV sounds out of your stereo while you floor it.

I can see them doing this in cars like Lexus so that it's always quiet until you hit the gas hard and then the sounds will play...

Michael Bolton: That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life.
Samir: Yes. Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

This was a really trendy idea about five years ago -- do a web search for the terms "active exhaust speaker" to see some discussion.

Your car would sound awesome paired with one of those blowoff valve speakers

Why wouldnt you just play a cd with ferrarri sounds then?

But nonetheless, you'll make a mint off the ricers of the world.

Actually, I was thinking of somethng similar, but it would be true sound. Put a mic inside the stock intake box and a speaker somewhere in the engine bay that lets you magnify the intake sound. You could adjust its volume or switch it off if need be.

I'm trying to remember what auto manufacturers have done this before - added speakers to pipe the car's mechanical sound into the cabin and such...
