bing, thank you for playing Lexus your second or third place prize will be in the mail.

C&D hit the nail on the head the M3 (with MT) costing a few grand less (than the ISF) and the M3 with SMG close to the same price as the ISF.
Further the m3 will have a Coupe, Vert and Sedan version choice of MT or SMG (something neither Audi or MB offer) and it is clear to me the M3 will be the sales champ. I would have to drive them all but in the pre-fight weigh in the M3 wins.
As somebody on Clublexus pointed out (I don't recall the final figure) but to the effect the M3 cost about $15K more than the 335i and the ISF cost about $20K more than the IS350.

BWM Trolls around here:
I owned one BMW in my life.
But BMW does make some of the best cars both according to the automotive press and by sales. I know Lexs also sells a lot of cars but the 3-series is the benchmark for smallish sedan/coupes. I believe the 3-series is (or was) the best selling import car in the UK.
It's fine that many people love the IS350 or whatever other car. But no car line is better than what BMW offers with the 3-series.
You can get a Wagon, sedan, coupe and vert with 6-NA, 6-turbo and V8s choice of 6-MT, 6-AT and soon 7-DSG tranny. You can get RWD or AWD and you can get AWD with MT or with the powerful engine option while with Lexus only with AT and only with the least powerful engine.
If you want a V8 Sedan with autobox (take it or leave it) the ISF is fine. If you want a coupe or if you want a MT tough luck (from Lexus) BMW will have you covered as well as offering a DSG tranny as an option. For not a lot of a premium. Was a time when Lexus offered MB/BMW type cars for a discount now as you can see with the ISF it's near the same cost as a BMW.
Y2ks2k has a BMW hot button. Mention the brand at all within one breath of saying "Lexus" and he pulls the "Niagara Falls" routine.
Say, did anyone 'get' that (I know it from Abbott & Costello)?

Lexus IS cars have been routinely stomped by BMW 3 series across the board, so this iteration should not be any different. Reality is that the IS is a decent car, but the BMW 3 series has always been a far superior car (as evidenced by the awards won). Having seen both of these cars up close I would take the M3 hands down.
Every car company has its iconic car, or number one selling car. BMW has 3-series, Honda has Accord and Civic, Toyota has Camry and Corolla. What is so special about that? So BMW 3-series is a better car than IS, could BMW make a $20k family car as popular as Accord and Camry? 3-series is supposed to be this good, otherwise it wouldn't be the target to be aimed at by so many luxury car makers. Afterall I would pick M3 over IS-F. But I also would pick GT-R over M3 without a second of hesitation.
