Lingenfelter H2
I lost my copy of motor trend, but did anyone see the Lingenfelter H2? It's a supercharged engine giving 500hp and 500-TQ (I think) for about $17K on top of the H2.
It's 0-60 and 1/4 mile are around 3 seconds quicker at around 6.2sec and 14.5 sec (I think I can't remember).
That's a little close for comfort to my S2000

I've always felt that the H2 is one of the most rediculous vehicles for sale in the US. Its big, clumsy, and inefficient. Yes, I'm sure its very capable off road but I'm willing to bet that less than 1/10th of 1% of buyers will actually use it that way. To top it all off, it isn't even all that spacious inside. The huge spare takes up what seems like 1/3 to 1/2 of your cargo area!
So why am I not surprised that people with more $ than brains are willing to pay boku bucks to make this behemoth faster than snot purely because they can. Normally, that kind of thing would leave me stoked but as with most SUV's, I'm at a loss.
Why not just buy a 540i wagon? You probably have more utility, it handles and brakes 10X better than stock and probably twice as good as the heavily modded H2 and has to be 300 times more fun to drive. Never mind the fact that it will smoke it in a straight line and that it will get much, much better mileage.
This, like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 4.6 are just enigmas to me. I think they're shining examples of people who are too caught up in "keeping up with the Jones'" and enamored with the concept of conspicous consumption.
Reading articles like that almost makes me wish for a $2/gallon gas tax just to stick it to the bozos who buy these pieces of ca ca.
thus endeth the rant
