Default M Coupe

I've been wanting to get back into a BMW M car since departing with my M3 last Oct. What are your opinions on the new M Coupe? It has the S54 engine of the E46 M3, looks like all business and fairly rare.

I don't care for it. Don't particularly like the styling. Think it's overweight. And none of the reviews that I've read have been overwhelmingly positive (everyone seems to much prefer the Cayman S, as do I). C&D also just found out that a 335i outruns the M coupe at VIR, for whatever that's worth. I'd get an '08 C6 Z51, '08 Cayman S or Boxster S, or E92 M3 before the M coupe.

The M coupe kicks a lot of tail, and it's quite sought after since they're so rare (particularly the S54s). There are some BMW enthusiasts that think it's about the best all-around performance BMW M car in a long time.

I'd get it if you can. I doubt you'd be disappointed. Is this for a weekend car, or DD?

I think he's talking about the current M coupe (Z4 version). Are they "rare?" I've seen a bunch lingering on the lot of the local Bimmer store here.

The S54 is a great engine, wonderful to drive!

I'm no fan of the Z4 look, and although this Z4 M Coupe has many of the same bothering visual cues, by the addition of the roof and the wonderful cabin/rear window shape somehow I have to say I like the look, although I will never say that of the drop top.

I have long thought a used one of these might be my next track car, cause I'm never doing another new car for the track, nor a convertible, and well there is that little thing about be being a BMW CCA member since the late '80s...

The Coupe looks way better than the convertible to my eye. I myself am tempted by the current M Coupe but just about everyone suggests comparing closely to the Cayman S. If I could really get over $10K off MSRP on the Porsche, and avoid too many options, it'd be awfully close to the BMW in price.

Never driven the new M coupe. I did drive a 2007 Z4 Convertible. I'm confident it would beat a 2007 S2000. The only conv. I would take over it in its class would be a Boxter S. I think its pretty pleasing to the eye.

I have an E46 M3 and I test drove the M Coupe a few months back. I actually like how the M Coupe drives more than the M3. The seats are just excellent.
