very nice
as for one car being slightly quicker (coupe or sedan) in different tests that does not mean a lot. What I mean is different conditions or slightly different car (brake-in miles etc..).
Of course quicker the better and if the 7-speed is any quicker than the 3-pedal MT hold on that's going to be darn quick.
One C&D test the 436hp C6 vette has 0-60 4.0sec (It would be something to see a car like the M3 do 4-flat could happen).
That C6 vette weighs ~400 lbs less and has more hp (slight) but about 130-TQ advantage has a quicker 1/4 mile 12.4@116 mph
C6 was slightly quicker to 100mph 9.2sec and to 150mph 23.5sec (M3 0 to 150 mph: 24.9 sec) but it seems as if the M3 is in that ballpark all with a rear seat as well as (IMO) nicer interior.
as well the M3 had the same exact 70-0 braking distance as the Corvette (Z51 package) 161 ft
as well had the same lateral-roadholding 0.95g
Street start 5-60 was significantly worse in the M3 5.4sec (vs 4.8 sec with the C6) most likely owing to the higher TQ (more low rpm freindly nature of the big 6.2L engine).
I am not saying anything bad about the Vette, it's a great car especially considering it can be ~$20K less money. But (IMO) I would say the M3 is getting darn close to being a 4-door (sedan) or 2+2 coupe with near-corvette performance.
I have been pricing out the M3 every way up and down. I am dissaopinted how bluetooth is $750 option and how comfort access only can get with the nav+ other options which is a bitch since it's a stand alone option on other BMWs.
The 335i has everything the M3 has for $16K less which makes me question how badly do I want the extra 114hp and everything that goes with it?

And this is the new best ever non-Z06 vette in face we were nuts for C5 Z06 which is hard pressed to be much quicker than this M3 sedan (nuts).

I'm just shocked how much this car will blow the doors of the last gen in every measurable way. I mean 4.8seconds to 4.1?? Yikes. I guess they knew the competition was getting really stiff and they could not afford to screw this up. I'm still waiting on the IS-F vs M3 comparo. Too bad either are a bit too rich for my blood at the moment. Lets chat in 3 yrs.
I drove a C5 Z06 and that was like hold on and this M3 is in that ballpark..
I keep my old mags look back R&T has..
510hp Viper 0-60 4.2 sec and 0-100 9.3 sec
Mustang GT500 (500hp) 0-60 4.6 sec 0-100 9.9 sec

only fly in the ointment is a car from Nissan ... GT-R which bends all the price/performance rules.
I haven't read that article yet... but I wonder why the sedan is quicker? More weight on the back end so it doesn't spin all day on launch? Or is the suspension set up differently? Different gearing? Or just C&D faking #'s because BMW told them to?

The new M3 isn't playing around, it's a serious ass kicker of a car...but as one above put it...the new GT-R is gonna wreak havoc among the performance car world...with damn near CGT performance at the price level of Vipers and Z06's...somethings gonna give in the industry, and I don't think it's gonna be Nissan this time. BMW is on the right track, and defenately stepping up to play ball with this new M3. I can't wait to see the #'s on the CSL
