so me and my parents are deciding on what car to get me for my first car. being anal parents that they are, they do not wnat to get me a car with manual transmission even though i want a nice used one. they say this because my mom doesnt know how to drive stick and shes to lazy and stubborn to even give it a try..so i was wonderignn if anybody can help me think of reasons that will have them let me get a stick car. i really want one
1. better fuel economy,
2. cheaper.
Given that, she won't listen to you anyway! Just hang on to it for a while and then get a car you are more comfortable with. By then, she will realize that you have some experience under your belt.

Also, having an automatic will let you build some experience on the road without the distraction of shifting gears. Don't sweat it though, it's only your first car...

Agree. Be greateful that your parents offered to buy you a car. If you want a manual, then tell them that you are responsible enough to buy your own, and maybe have them co-sign.
But, it mainly depends on the location and traffic. If you live in DC metro, definitely an auto (especially for a first car), but if you live in middle of nowhere with light traffic then a manual.
S2000 was my very first manual car that I've owned. I was 27 years old. I kinda learned how to drive a manual off my buddy's Jetta, that's when I was 26.
What's the rush for a manual?

My parents are buying me a car.... I want a a ferrari.... they will only buy me a lambo
as others said, be gratefull. I certainly WOULD NOT have wanted to take my driving test in a manual, now after driving my own manual for like 5 years sure, but man that would have been killer when I was a new driver. I learned to drive in my fathers manual, it was tough, I was so worried about turning left before the traffic and trying to get started in first gear, it can be dangerous if your not confident in the starting yet.... Driving my Mom's auto car was good experience.
