It's still sub-par. The 10R meets noise and emissions limits, and the engines are bulletproof. If 160 (claimed) is all you can do with 1.6 L turbo, the engineers are hugely conservative.

Your ZX-10 also puts down 75 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. Someone at Kawasaki needs to get with the program! A torque value numerically less than half that of horsepower is unacceptable!

It's actually closer to 80, but in all honestly, with a 430 lb machine, it's got enough torque to pull the front wheel up all the way through 3rd gear (no clutch)

lets take a look at this...

zx10: 160hp@12k rpm
old miata: 98hp@6.5k rpm

yet as far as torque goes...

zx10: 80@around 6.5k rpm
miata: 80-90 throughout the entire rpm range.

which is why cars aren't powered (typically) by bike engines.

Again, I agree, but a 1.6 liter honda engine that makes 170 hp is probably a better comparison than a sport bike engine that can rev to eleventy billion rpms.

12k rpm. A properly engineered 1.6 four should be able to rev to 9k. Aside from the rotary (which they purchased the rights to), Mazduh is not known for it's great engines

I can't think of any high production turbo car engines that rev to 9K.

What, the MX5 isn't small enough?
