What are you nuts? The Miata is a great roadster. Have you ever driven one? It may not be that powerful or a classic like an MGB or Sprite, but its a blast to drive, is safe and reliable, and Mazda has sold a ton of them - nothing else comes close.

In addition to being fun to drive, dirt cheap, and very reliable, the Miata reinvented the roadster category; there may never have been an S2000 if the Miata hadn't come along first.

Anyone who writes off the Miata as not a true sports car immediately loses all credibility in my books.

^ I agree +1. The new generation car is fantastic. I drove one when they first came out and would like to drive one again. I suspect that it may actually be better than the S2K for everyday/around-town driving (which, since I don't track my car, is all I do). I seem to recall that the car, overall, was not as harsh/loud as the S2K. I'd love to see a PRHT Mazdaspeed Miata priced under the S2K. That would be a sensational car.

That is the first thing that jumped into my mind when I was reading the OP...but you got to it before me.

I think sometimes the words "best" and "important" are mixed up when comparing things...be it music, movies, or even cars.

So while I agree that the Miata is, all things considered, ONE OF the best roadsters ever made...I think, more importantly, it is ONE OF the most important cars ever made.

Definitely respected.

Miata!?! What an atrocity!

It clearly should have been the Pontiac Solstice.

I don't think it's the best ever, but considering when it came about and the price it was and is. It has to be considered to have breathed life into the sports car side of the industry.

1989 they cost $14K

I guess the MR2 or other cars were in that class but they never really caught on like the Miata and also were not true roadsters.

The Miata has sold 750,000+

The tought that for any car to be fun or good is that it needs a 900 hp hemi or LS2 is mostly held by balding guys with viagra habits.

You clearly have not driven it or tossed it around on a track. Great, great car for the money!

Your response seems to be of the Mustang/Camaro mentality.
