Had a 99 10AE and I would think I was going 70 but the speedo said 50. The S is just the opposite you think you're going 50 and the speedo says 70. The Mazda was lighter but not as stiff. Definitely had some cowl shake. It was nimble and fun but didn't like as much speed. The S kind of acts bored unless it's being pushed a little and it is faster and can handle the speed.
Like most here say they are both good cars in their own ways.

I've owned both machines (02 AP1 and 95 NA) and both are fun in different ways. The AP1 was like a jet fighter with 4 wheels. Super fast and hugged the corners with the best of them. The miata however, was a blast to drive as long as i wasn't going anywhere faster than 70mph. The miata for me was a much more entertaining car on the street since i could never take full advantage of the AP1's power.

in a nutshell, AP1 is stupid fun going fast while the miata is a blast going slow.

Also, the miata is easier to toss around and won't bite you even if you mess up. On the other hand, AP1 balance is at a knife's edge. go over the balance and you'll have to use all your skills to recover.
i agree with all of your points. the s2k is clearly a superior car but i am not an agressive driver and hence the MSM (which i currently own) is more fun for me since i'm using it as a commuter car.
i'm really happy to see so many s2k owners praising the miata...sometimes there are miata bashing threads on here and i don't understand it since it is very much the s2k's little brother.

S2k is WAY overweight relative to the Miata. My biggest problem with the car.
99% of the cars out there are overweight when compare to a miata. would you have a problem with an enzo because its overweight when compare to a miata?

I ain't mad at the Miata/MX-5, I think they're great cars, but the S just has more character IMO.
