Default Mini Cooper

How do you program the remote garage door openers for a Mini Cooper? Are these things universal so they are all the same?

My mom just got a new cooper today and of course she came asking me for help. She thinks I know it all about cars but little does she know I get all my info from here

Help me out guys!

Is it Homelink? Did it not come with a owners manual?? If your garage door opener is 20 years old or newer, it has a "roaming code" security feature. If this is the case, you have to press a button on the garage door unit itself to put it in "learning mode" before the the opener in the car can be programmed. There usually is a pretty detailed explanation in the manual.

I'll ask her to read, that can be quite difficult. Age brings on stubbornness

It can be a PITA. I figured it out one day and did all of our cars, but not I've kind of forgotten. THe Roaming code ones require 2 steps. Step 1 is to program the car like it's one of the remotes and Step 2 is to hit the learn button on the garage door opener and then program it to the roaming code. For some reason it was much easier and straight forward in the explorer and Odyssey than the BMW. Since the Mini is a BMW, good luck.

Read the manual dood.
