Mini Cooper S engine cut out while driving

Today I was driving with my girlfriends 2005 MINI cooper S (automatic) and when going up the mountain pass upon applying the gas the engine did not respond to the input. After a moment of "WTF is happening here", it picked up like normal for a minute or two until I pulled over to rest for a second. After taking off again, the same thing happened. This happened 3 times total in a period of about 5 minutes. Any thoughts as to what it could be??? We made it to the MINI dealer where we left it for them to figure out. My thought was fuel related, filter or pump
, clogged PCV valve, or maybe the idler control valve???? We had last got gas a few days before but it had been acting totally normal until the drive this afternoon.
Any thoughts are appreciated

My BMW beeded a fuel pump at (90k) ran great, then stumbled, ran great then died. Restarted once, wouldn't take revs. Then, as they say in germany...Kapoot. Thought fuel filter, but not that luck.
Hanging on the tach sounds like a transmission issue, but that's just my guess. Depending on mileage it could be the fuel filter or something else, but I'm leaning towards transmission.
Cars are surprisingly solid though imho. Any word from the dealer yet?

I'm leaning towards transmission issue as well. The CVT transmissions are not known for their reliability, and there is a class action lawsuit going on. Also have the dealer check the battery voltage. I read a case where the battery was replaced and it fixed the issues.

No word yet from the dealer. It did have a new engine installed 11 months ago,not sure what they actually replaced and salvaged from the old motor due to a rod bearing going. Technically the car has 50k on it but 7k on the new "motor"
Battery is original as far as we know, it wouldn't actually cut out like that if it was a battery issue I don't think would it??
I did look into changing the Trans fluid because of some hesitating in its shifting but the owners manual said it has a lifetime Trans fluid and there is no need for it to ever be replaced which is odd sounding to me

No fluid lasts forever. I'm mean, they are getting better but nothing is forever except a diamond. Lol. MINI's do very weird things with low battery power. If it's from 2005, chances are it probably needs to be replaced. Mine is new as of 2010 and mine is a 2006. If it's been there for 2 days already, I'd give them a courtesy buzz to see what's up if you don't get a call by 5pm.
