I own an RSX and am trying to find some good advice. I didn't have much luck back at ClubRSX. I just got my new engine back and am concerned about the oil. I keep hearing about special break-in oil that is supposed to be used in new motors prior to using regular oi. I have good reason to think that they did not fill in the new motor with break-in oil. Anyway, what would the outcome be if they hadn't used it? Are they liable for anything? Thanks in advance s2ki members.

 

It is still uncertain and unproven that there is indeed "special break-in oil". Any rebuild would have been done with proper "assembly lube" put in all the critical places. With this in mind, I don't think that using regularly available oil would be inadequate. After all, engines have been bebuilt this way for decades. I wouldn't be terribly concerned about it but change your oil early after a rebuild (maybe after 500-1000 miles). Keep track of its oil consumtion during this time and if it doesn't use any (and an RSX doesn't normally use oil during break-in like an S2000 does) you might consider going to synthetic at the change (or maybe the 2nd change).
