So far they've posted hot laps for the Aventador, GT-R, BRZ, Jag XKRS, 991 S and a few others.

I always take these things with a grain of salt but at least they got a good pro driver to drive all the cars. The opinion part I'm not so sure about.

i love the brz but this explains the BRZ well:

"I don't really believe in that "this is enough power" theory, but power does really change a car's character. It's a lot more difficult, I think, to make cars handle well when they have more power. I think I would supercharge it so you don't lose that precision in the power delivery."

Lets see how it handles with more hp. Sc'ed s2000s handle extremely well.

It shouldn't have been car of the year but it drove ok for it's time. I really gave serious thought to a Cosworth when they came out. It made the Vega a fun little car with a cool engine that was pretty much unlike anything else at the time. Of course there was the minor little issue of the body rusting off the car in 12 months one day or 12,001 miles, whichever came first...

Last years test had largely irrelevant reasons for naming the 458 as driver's car of the year.

Perhaps best all rounder, but not driver's car.

"The gearbox really makes those H-patterns feel like antiques." - all depends on what you're into. For me, a driver's car should always have a manual, whether we are moving into a new technological era or not.

"Could you drive the 458 daily? Yes." - I don't know why this is relevant.

"It even has the best ride." - not a relevant component for a driver's car imo.

"If the GT3 RS is a sparring partner and the GT-R a supercomputer that happens to drive really well, the 458 is something in between." - So the car that compromises is better than the raw 911?

"the best engine sound." - Purely subjective. I think stock non-Scuderia or Challenge Ferrari V8s sound dry, and the wail of a flat six is much more mechano-centric. More driver's car like, unadulterated.

"The 458 feels polished, cozy, almost relaxed." - Why is this relevant to a driver's car?

"With the exception of the Corvette and its race-compound tires, the 458 was the fastest car around Laguna Seca. It was the second-quickest to 60 mph (3.2 seconds), and the second-fastest through the quarter mile at 11.3 seconds, just a tenth behind the GT-R and its AWD drag-racing advantage." - I'm not sure outright speed is also a completely essential factor in driver's cars once you get to that level of performance anyway.

I love the 458 to death, the spyder more so, but a lot of these reasons just don't point towards a driver's car. Maybe it's just me.
