S2000's are only 1-2 (maybe 3) seconds faster on average than Miatas at autocrosses. Considering the S has 100 more ponies under the hood to make up time on the straights, I would say the Miata can hold it's own with much more expensive platforms. You can pick up a brand new Miata for about $18k these days, since they're selling so well (not!). That's $13,000+ less than an S. I've now owned both and I can say the Miata will never compete with an S and it shouldn't be expected to. However, give me $10k... no, make that even $8k to put into a Miata engine and suspension, to go head to head with an S at just about anything except maybe a top speed contest, and I'm for certain it'd blow the S's doors off. For $3800 and just 7psi of roots boost (stock internals), a Miata will hang with an S and the driver wouldn't even have to dump the clutch at 6,000 RPM to do so. At 10psi and a stand alone ECU ($5500/225whp), say bye bye Miata.

I will not deny the Miata is slow, but give credit where credit is due. As said before, the S2000 would not be here if it weren't for the Miata. The S2000 is not in the World Book of Records for a copies sold record. The Miata is.

Oh my Gawd! You read my mind. I couldn't understand a god damn thing he said, but I figured he drove an MR-S. Some people need to calm down and write clearer sentences.

Here I'll try to fill in section that were gone

Went out last night with my friend. He intoducted me to this guy with and MR-S. When he found out I had and S, the first thing that he said is "do you want to race". I said "no, we're wasted". After a few hours we sobered up. And he asked to race again. I said "no, we're in waikiki". FYI-here are tons of cops there.

Just for fun we drove thru Waikiki. I had to piss, so i pulled over at the end to use the restroom. He asked to drive my car. I said yes. So we switched

The MR-S windshield is closer to you, and the engine didn't want to rev as fast (for some reason the S's engine begges to be reved). Plush ride relative to the S. Steering Response not as sharp.

Anyways i followed while he was driving in my car. Went around diamond head. He went back and forth. I can tell he was trying to stretch the s's legs.

Well when he got out, I asked him if he still wanted to race? you know what he said. Then he asked if he can buy it off me!!! I said no.

Got back in my car with a different prespective.

got to try a Miata now.

Most Miata owners wish they could put the S2000 engine and transmission in their cars. They don't necessarily want an S2000.

The Miata is a great car. Easy to drive. Forgiving. No head room for taller drivers.

The MRS is a better handling car, and more spacious than the Miata, but very unforgiving compared to the Miata.

Both of these cars are more tossable than the S2000. They also both have better road feel. Don't underestimate the advantages of a light car. If the S2000 were 300 pounds lighter, it would be 100% better than it is now.

Both of these cars are slow and overpriced for what you get.

I love my new MY04, but I must say I find it humorous when folks think of the S2000 as some bare bones sports car. It has a power top for heaven's sake. It's a luxury sports car. It serves many purposes well. But if you just want to drive a car strictly around the curves, the MRS may actually be more rewarding.
