My First Ferrari Experience

As you probably know, I work for "Late Show with David Letterman." Dave and I share the enthusiasm for cars, and have spent many conversations talking about them. At the time I was really into Porsches. I was driving my '72 911 at Porsche Club driver's ed events, and having a great time learning how to drive this car on a race track. Every Monday after an event weekend, I would be expounding the virtues 911s, and how thrilling they were to drive. Although Dave owned Porsches, he was probably getting tired of hearing me go on about "Porsche this, and Porsche that...," and one day he interrupted me, and asked, "Tommy, have you ever driven a Ferrari?" Of course, I replied "No." Where would I get a chance to do that? Dave then said, "When you get a chance to drive a Ferrari, we'll talk." I shut my mouth about the Porsches.

The Late Show staff and crew traveled to Los Angeles to shoot a week of shows at CBS

Great story. I had no idea that you had friends in high places... anyone who supports CART and Ferrari is OK in my book!

Cool story! I remember a while back the show had a skit where they gave people a drive around the block in a S2000 (silverstone I think) and that it was owned by someone on the staff. Was that yours??

Great story! You and Bieg are both making this forum an interesting place to hang out these days.
I knew Leno was into cars, but I didn't know about Dave...do they ever get together and compare rides?

Helios - I've heard that Dave is *big* into cars, especially driving them.

Cool story, Tommy. If you have the chance, pass on our regards to Dave. I know someone who had shingles and it wasn't fun.

I thought the "DINO" was not technically actually a ferarri?

I saw Letterman one time back about 8 years ago..... you were not allowed to get up and use the bathroom because if the camera's scanned the audience, they didn't want to show any holes.
