My Z06 adventure
Well just to update...
I finally got my test drive
I have driven these cars: NSX, M3 (E46), Boxster S, Supra (non turbo), I own a S2000, I have been driven in a 911 tt. Just for reference.
The Z06 is world class. In a straight line it kills all the cars I have driven.
I got a ride in a 911 tt, and wasn't very impressed, relative to the Z06 I'd have to say the Z06 wins on power/feeling of power. Well, it's hard to say because the owner of the 911 tt wasn't trying to scare me, I'll have to drive the 911 tt first to call it, but right now I give the Z06 the crown. The Z06 is just as powerful as the 911 tt and yet weighs less.
I hear all about people moding the Z06, but I can't honestly say it need more power, I can't imagine what the C6 Z06 will feel like.
I didn't really put the Z06 through its paces. We had a 10 mile test drive, sales guy drove out, and I drove back. The roads were a little damp, when he hit it 1-2 and 2-3 shift near redline, we go at little loose I guess it was a breaking loose, not enough to "fishtail" but I guess the stability control kicked in. I don't know how fast we were going, I too scared to. I mean the power is un-believable. It felt like we were being catapulted forward.
I really didn't get to test it at the limits, but it really handled good in everyday street driving, the shifter is nowhere near the S2000 quality, but it wasn't bad. The interior was a step down from the S2000 (I'm not saying the S2000 is great, but it's fit and finish and material and gaps are well clear of the C5).
I like the seat of the S2000 better and I have more headroom in the S2000, but the Z06 isn't bad. The HUD was OK, but I can really live without it.
One thing I don't get from all the other cars I've driven is the sound. At WOT, the Z06 sounds mean and is quite loud. The S2000 at VTEC sounds cool, but the Z06 is a lot louder (IMO) and meaner.

Now on the sale...
Well, I own my S2000 outright; I have a Hardtop and 8900 miles and 17 months old. The best we could come up with is: my car + $25K for the Z06... Well that's not bad, but it's more than I was willing to spend. The thing is he was only giving me $22K for my S2000. I could probably sell it myself for more, but I'm not into wasting time, and to be honest I still like the S2000. I went in there with the outlook of if I can get a killer deal I'd do it. A killer deal would have been my car + $20K.
So I'm not going to do it.
In a way its better because I don't need people at work talking about how I get a new car every 10 months, and how "loaded" I am because I have so many cars etc... I just bought a Sienna (loaded)10 months ago and seven months before that I bought the S2000. I have 4 cars already.
The problem is I would loose a lot on my S2000, if I wait 2 years I will get a lot more use out of it for my money.
With the hardtop + tax + interest, I figure I spent $38K on my car. If I get $22K that works out to $16K lost in 17 months. I had a Honda Odyssey for 44 months and only had $18K out of pocket.
I at least found out that I do love the corvette, I probably will like the C6 a lot mor with it's style in and out, its fixed headlights, HIDs etc... I know it will set me back more than the C5 Z06, but at least I will bring my cost per month on the S2000 way down by keeping it longer.
That's it
Great car
Thinking about putting an order on the C6

A good friend of mine has a Z06. The power is intoxicating. As good as it is. I would say a c6 with a z51 susp. package will come very close to the performance, and hopefully offer significant improvements in the interior design, chassis tuning, and overall package(smaller size, HIDS's). besides, with a bigger engine, I'm sure you could easily mod it to keep up with the C5-z06.
btw, you made a smart decision by not taking such a huge hit on a 17 month old car. I would say wait tilll the 2nd yr. z6 comes out, and then trade in the s2k.

I was what you would call a corvette doubter. I thought it was a "gold chain" thing, or a 50-something thing. Let me tell you it's one of the best cars out there. I guess you know, QUIKAG.
My work buddy with his 911 tt said his neighbor has a Z06 and they switched for a while. He was kind of putting the Z06 down... "Not as fast as the turbo...plastic, cheap, etc..."
Well I guess he was compensating for spending $120K on his car that is no faster than the Z06.

That's cool, sounds like you have the car fever. I was this --><-- close to buying a new Z06 last Spring, when for a brief period GM offered 0% for 60 months on Vettes. That was a rare opportunity. I didn't because I couldn't justify $50k ($46k + taxes) on a car - a toy car. They are a killer deal now though. It will be several years before the C6 can be had at such bargain prices, if ever. Nobody knows what a C6 Z06 will cost.

even the supratt and e46 m3 are nice cars.
