Default need a good beater

well, i dislocated my kneecaps and it is going to be a while before I drive the S again.

I need an AT vehicle that can fit cargo as well as my (not small) parents in their 60s. I was thinking a mid 90s grand cherokee. I know the I6 it uses is very reliable and I think Jeeps are nice trucks.

I would rather have a CRV but even the '97 ones are like $6K.

do you really want a truck per se, or do you just need the utility. If you just need the utility cargo space then that opens up your options to cars that either have a hatch (Civic) or a really big trunk with a passthrough ('97 Altima).

I have kidney failure, which lead to nerve damage in my legs. due to the partial paralysis, I have walked kind of flat-footed for years. That made my quadriceps weak, enabling the knee cap to shift. then, one day I pivoted and my knees bent forward.

I should be OK, but I'll need surgery this week to fix a broken quad-patella tendon. I'll be out of the S game for 6 weeks more.

No, I don't need a truck per se, but something like a Civic is just too small. I need something where I don't have to bend my knees too much to get in and out and something with a higher center of gravity. My parents have a Grand Cherokee and that fits the bill, so I was thinking of getting one, too.

I don't want to spend lots of cash as I already have a car payment on the S.

Are you looking for trucks because they do not require as much bending at the knees as cars? I agree that a GM car is cheap to pick up and will do you good while you recuperate, but I'm guessing you were looking at something truckish because of it ease of entry/exit with regards to the knees.

The GC should be good, and the I6 is reliable. A GM truck with the 4.3 V6 should be plenty good as well, or a Tacoma/Frontier/Hardbody. Used Pathfinders are cheap to pick up too, if you're focusing on SUVs.
