Default Need a SUV Part II.

Hey guys,

I am bored of my passat and decided to start looking for a new vehicle. Our Yukon XL has 53K miles on it. So I figure If I can get another vehicle that my wife would drive more then I can decrease the miles on the Yukon(it averages 13.4 MPG). I want to buy it through the business - so I guess It needs to meet the 6000 LB. GVWR rating. That means no MDX, RX, ML. That leaves me the choices of X5, GL, Touraeg TDI(28 MPG), Audi Q7, or Range Rover HSE. Not a fan of the Porsche Pepper.

I am not a fan of the X5. So that went out first. The GL is boring and you pay for the MB name even though it is seriously lacking in quality. So I don't think I am going to go for it. So I am left with Touraeg TDI, Audi Q7 TDI or Range Rover. The RR is obviously in a different league price wise but dang it is so nice on the inside. Unfortunately - I have a hard time swallowing the resale hit and reliability issues. The closet LR dealer is 120 miles away. So it would get old to go back frequently for electrical issues. The engine/tranny is Jag. based so it should be ok.

The Q7 is quite nice. I like the exterior styling but the interior is dated, The nav is small, and there isn't much trunk space. Reliability is worse than Avg. per CR plus I wonder if I should get a DD that neeed service in Dallas(120 miles).

The Touraeg TDI is rated at 19/28 MPG. It is a bit small on the inside but it is based on the new Cayenne so it is lighter, has a better interior than the Q7.

So far it is between the Q7 and the T-reg. The Q7 is in the lead. Another thought was to just lease some other sedan or something else. But that just opens up a whole new can of worms. My wife is tired of talking cars with me. She won't even look at the pics anymore. The sad thing is that the Passat just hit 40K miles - runs great, has new tires. I am just bored of it. Any other vehicle/SUV I am missing?

Sorry for the ramblings.

I saw this giant monstrosity at a stoplight yesterday. Never have seen one before. Bulbous hood, square brick-like back end. Bigger than a Seqouia and really ugly. It had an Infiniti badge on it. I suggest anything but that.

Of your choices, I like the Audi.

have you ever thought about a four door truck. plenty of room and a truck bed, and would also meet your GVWR. ford has a new ecoboost that has plenty of power and towing and also has pretty good mpg for a truck.

[edit: got my weights goofed up]

Hahaha, I was going to actually suggest the Infiniti QX56.

OK, the 4WD shows 5850 Curb, so I'm sure that's easily 6000 GVWR

I've liked the Sequoia for a while now. Looks like a nice SUV with good power & towing capacity. I haven't sat in one (or driven one), but the interior looks roomy. You could look at the Lexus for the luxury equivalent.

I agree with the others that have commented on the new Infiniti. That thing is HUGE!!!*

From the options you listed, it'd be a tough choice for me. I like the styling of the Q7 more. But the Touareg still seems like a good option. And if it has a more conveniently located dealership, then it would be easier to deal with getting it serviced.

*That's what she said.

How about the Honda Pilot? They are very roomy, great on gas and....it's a Honda!

So you're going to buy a pig just to get a deduction? Will the extra gas/tires/dissatisfaction of driving a monster justify it?

I'm not sure how that business deduction works so it's a serious question.

Personally, I'd say pick up a Panamera Turbo or go home.
