Looks good some "flame" surfacing but not bad like BMW

Grill a little too big and Audi-like

Interior looks great

I own a 99 Passat and would certainly give the new one a look. But I don't like the reliability of my car overly much

Interior looks nice but the exterior is meh. Like the style of the previous better. Hopefully reliability will be better.

Finally... The old VW models look so boring... About time they got a refresh of styling.

Because the 525i has an incredibly weak engine compared to the new Passat. It also wouldn't be even close to fully loaded... (The price you saw was for a fully loaded Passat) You would be missing leather, xenon, etc. if you got a bare 525i.

Go for it. 184hp 2.5L vs 280hp 3.6L probably near the same weight The Passat will be a full second quicker (or more). It's got 50% more hp.

Passat 3.6L AWD est. $38K (fully loaded)

525i $42K-$61K (OK that's about the same)

Actually for the money it's not bad. I know it's not quite in the same league, but the Audi A6 less powerful 3.2L costs more and the RL a bit more hp but probably a bit heavier so the power/weight ratio should be about the same costs $12K more.
