Default Next Gen S2000. Buy/Wait

Question

I have been saving for my own S2000 for the last two years now and am getting ready to pull the trigger. I have been hear lots of talk about S2200/S2400 which might be coming out late 04?

First is there any truth to 2nd Gen S2000 or is it 5 and out?
If so what have you heard?
Should I buy or wait.
I Love this car! Can it get better? Should I just shut up and buy the damn thing already?

Thanks
Bilyum

according to "rumors", the 2004 s2000 will have a 2.2 motor that produces more torque at a lower rpm but produces the same if not just slightly more power. its redline will be lower than the current 9000rpm. other changes include redesigned bumper covers front and back, revised interior for more interior room, and "updated" instrument panels. it has also been specualated the the shocks/springs on the 2004 will be softer to produce better ride. whether this new setup will negatively affect the car's handling has yet to be determined. it'll probably just affect the S's handling only at the limits, while reducing the car's abrupt tendancy to break its rear end. as for its straight line performance, there has been no performance data available to date. overall, the engine will most likely make the car more brisk in the lower rpm during daily driving, and unless you absolutely want an engine that can rev to 9000rpm, the 2.2 will probably, imo, be a better engine (as long as it doesn't weigh more). also, the new 2.2 will incorporate i-VTEC technology, meaning the powerband will be more linear than that of the 2.0. overall, the 2004 is NOT the next generation of the s2000. it's merely revised. think of it like the current bmw 3-series going from a 328 to a 330 a couple of years ago.

as for whether or not you should wait, personally, i would at this point since the 2004 should be arriving in showrooms in a few months. also, since you've been waiting 2 years, another few months will not be that much longer--if not to see if the 2004 will be a better car for you, you will probably be able to get a better discount on the remaining 2003s when the 2004s arrives.

as far as i know, the 2004 will remain a softtop--but i can be wrong, so don't quote me on that...

I would wait, VTEC_Junkie nailed it on the head. He said everything I was thinking, just more clearly and legibly.

personally i think the car is just about perfect as is. all of those changes sound like the car is moving farther away from why i love it. i definitely wouldn't pay msrp for an 03 because these things are gonna depreciate a lot when the new one comes out. So i would use the incoming new model as a bargaining chip to get myself a super deal on an 03 which in my mind will be a superior car to the 04 anyway.

definitely wait.....it might have similar hp stock, but don't be fooled. This motor will not be maxed to capacity like the F20C. If the car really does get this motor in 2004, then it will be a k-series 2.2l. The K-series 2.0 in the RSX is capable of 300+ whp n/a no nos. Imagine that kind of n/a power in an S2000....and that's only the 2.0 making that kind of power. The 2.2 will make even more due to displacement. Stock s2000s will dyno at 205rwhp, but how nice would it be to have 250rwhp, or 280rwhp, or 320rwhp all motor in a 2,800 lb car(assuming it weighs the same).

Shit i've seen some SUPERCHARGED F20Cs dynoing lower than that.
