Default Non-s2000 related car problems

I've seen this same problem on a different car forum before, but I do not remember what it means. I'm not even sure it means the same thing on every car.

I drive a 2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 with almost 107,000 miles. Yesterday, I got in the car and was about to be getting on the highway, when suddenly I realized my speedometer was malfunctioning. Once I get up to highway speed, the speedometer jumps up to actual speed, and at the same time my check engine light AND abs warning light comes on!! about 5 minutes later I try to set my cruise control, and IT'S NOT WORKING EITHER!!!

Like I said, I've read about this before on a forum somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember where. Is this a universal warning on all cars, or is my only option to take it in and get it checked?

BTW, this is the first non-Japanese car I've ever owned(of 7 vehicles) and this is the first problem I've had at all with it in the year I've had it.

pull yor check engine codes, you probobly need something like a transmission speed sensor, since a faulty sensor will cause a CEL and also cause the speedoometer to malfunction.

lots of vehicles cruise controls do not work when there is a fault and the CEL is illuminated so i wouldnt worry about cruise, its only because the CEL is on.

Autozone can pull the code for you and they will do it for free. At least it will give you some idea of what you are dealing with.

Thanks for all your input guys! My speedometer is working again though. Could it have been a temporary speed sensor problem and I just need to clear the code?

try clearing and see if it returns?

chances are the problem didnt fix itself though... so expect it to happen in the future
