Not for my first bike - I want a beater! I want to pay x, learn the dynamics, get some exp, then go and spend real money on a bike when I'm better. I figure a cheap bike will basically cost the same to sell as it did to buy.

bro:
-a 22+year old bike, dont think they made round tires back then.
-a significant portion of the US population was born after 1985
-what in the world do you plan to do to that poor bike while "learning the dynamics, get some experience" that you need such a caveman ride? keep in mind you have to sit on top if that thingy and participate in its travels too. its not like a car, it hurts when you crash.
-read the craigslist add, the bike is sssso ugly it broke the guy's camera after only 2 pics.

Don't listen to kids who weren't around back then. That looks like a fine ride. Mid-1980's machines are perfect first bikes. They still understood what Universal Japanese Machine meant. A fellow I work with commutes about six days a week on a similar bike. I helped him beadblast and clear-coat the 3rd member for cosmetics a few weeks ago.

The point I think you are aiming at is being able to sell it in six months to a year for the same price you bought it. Good choice.
