An open letter to LAPD
Recently I joined the Examiner(.com) under the title of the LA automotive insights examiner.
I published an article today that I'm sure many of you will be interested in, as I'm sure many of you have encountered the same sort of behavior from your local police.

I agree with your sentiment, but like all of us, they are likely playing the odds. They don't know you, your wife and baby are in the car. For all they know, you just finished doing something wrong while they couldn't see you... Further, your car might be hot. He might just be running your plates to see if there's anything fishy about the ride...
Don't get me wrong, I hate the wrongful tailing too... But try to see it from their perspective as well. While many cops that you've encountered might be dicks, many that you haven't encountered might just be doing their thankless low-pay jobs.

Not a bad article at all. The people who drive sportscars properly and learn to drive them properly in a safe place are most likely much better and safer drivers than those clueless folks in their SUV's and plain jane sedans.
I get what you're saying, but this is ridiculous.
Finding motorists that ARE doing something wrong isn't all that hard, you can park a cruiser on any main street and be busy writing tickets 24/7.
BTW, the most stolen cars in the US are Accords and Camrys, it'll take a lot of time tailing just them to run the plates in the computer

In the town where I live, the average officer makes around 80K. the top guy made almost $300K last year.
25% of the force makes more than $100K/year.
add generous pension and retirement benefit to that.

I'm going to take the contrarian view here. Is having a cop car drive behind you for a few blocks once and a while really such an imposition? If I were to make a list of grievances about the police, them occasionally checking out sports cars would be pretty low on the list.
