Default opinions on e46 M3 failures...

so whats everyone's take on this topic? would you purcahse an m3 given the possibility (slight or otherwise) or you engine quitting on you? keep in mind BMW's tightlipped attitude towards this problem. gives me the chills expecially in a car that i really aspired to own and maybe one that i will ? any opinions?

Here we go again. This topic has been beated to death. Only car with prod. date from 10/01 to 12/01, all 2002 MY. So if you want a M3 just get one with different prod date and you'll be fine.

doh think about what would happen if your engine blows while youre driving around mountian raods or at high speed with other peeps. its not just the car here its that someone could be sriously hurt if this happens. im sure you can think of different scenorios.

Visit my FAQ for Jason's Engine Failure website:

E46 M3 FAQ

JDMkIV, the failures aren't quite that drastic... the car doesn't lose control or anything, you develop a knocking sound in the engine (spun bearings).

Latest engine to go was a 3/02 build. There was an update to the bearing's/crankshaft made during 4/02 according to the latest ETK CD.

i went to look at a prod date7/01 and when i started it up in the lot it sounded like the engine was going to rattle completely in pieces. i turned it off and told the saleman i was scared i might break it. is this what the engine failures sound like.
