I picked up a black 04 CTS-V with 18k miles on it in virtually new condition. This car is black and has not a single scratch, swirl, or mark on it. BEAUTIFUL! The interior still has the plastic over the carpets. Quite amazing that it was kept in this condition..
My initial impressions- This car drives great. For such a large car, the power is impressive but the handling is very impressive. It doesn't have the agility of the s2k but it certainly is fun for a 3800lb 4-door. The stopping power is nothing short of amazing. The reviews of wheel-hop in the lower gears are certainly dead on. I've already blown a diff..
The torque on this motor is very impressive. There is power no matter where you are in the rev range and the tall 6th gear means you can cruise at 65mph well under 2k.
After 1 month- The quality on this car is pathetic for a car with an MSRP of over 50k. The door pannels bow outward when you shut the door, the visors peel, and the car has already been in the shop for a slew of mechanical failures.
I'm driving 50% highway and 50% stop and go and I'm averaging 15.7mpg
All in all I have some regrets of going GM but despite all the little problems I do LOVE this car and I'll keep it until my bank account is empty from the gas costs.

It's a shame to hear about all the problems on the CTS-V's, especially on the diff. Usually GM's LS cars have pretty stout drivetrains and have the rest of the car fall apart around them. Has that LS6 had any problems so far?
Hope everything works out and congrats on the purchase.

The LS6 is quite a motor. I imagine that would be the last thing to give. Everytime I step on it I can't help but wonder what it would be like in the z06. BTW- That blue is my favorite color on the z06!

The CTS-V's have been known to have rear differential problems, in addition to wheel hop. I'm not surprised to hear any of your impressions regarding the ownership of this car, your comments are dead-on. I wish GM would pay a little more attention to detail and build the interior with better materials. However, the V's sure are a blast to drive.
