If there was no performance benefit they would not be using them on the race car. The body panels on the C6RS are nearly identical to the race car panels. What they do is let the air from the brake ducts that normally packs up in the wheel area escape to eliminate lift. I assure you if they do not make the car faster or handle better they would not be on the C6R. As far as them being unattractive to you, you are welcome to your opinion.
You can see the sun shining through the fender vents here showing they are not just for looks.
