President Changes Mind on Hybrids
February 27, 2002
President Bush inspected a number of experimental hybrid cars parked on the south driveway of the White House in a photo-op to promote his plan to give tax credits to people who buy such fuel-efficient vehicles, The Associated Press reported.
Two years ago, then-candidate Bush mocked such a tax credit proposal when it was part of then-Vice President Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign platform, the story pointed out.
The President said, "I urge the United States Senate to pass a comprehensive energy plan quickly. The House has acted, and now the Senate must act" to pass Bush's energy plan, which is stalled in the Senate.

Slightly on the Political side. . .
I'll allow it as I agree with you on it. . .Honda usually meets or exceeds US Government standards before they are set! Tax credits or something should be the reward for companies like Honda!
That's true innovation. While Ford, Chevy and Chrysler may have had prototype vehicles, I'm sure they were as unattractive as the Aztek. . .eeewww, I just got the shakes from thinking on how it looks!

At least they are heading in the right direction. I don't think the White house will ever endorse a Japanese made car ever, it could float run on water and clean the air but they just don't care.
On a side note when I bring the insight to a car show it draws more attention then the S2000 and most people know what it is and are reasonably informed, though I feel most of the unwashed masses don't know what they are looking at.

I was so miffed about Honda's absence that I sent the White House an email to that effect. I did keep the tone polite and respectful so the Secret Service and the FBI don't start a dossier on me.
