Default Prius flat out with E92 M3 following

To stir the pot here on the S2000 board, I would bet money that an S2000 flat out on the track with a Vette only having to keep up behind it, the Vette would get significantly better gas mileage.

The Prius vs. M3 test is kind of stupid, but it does show that each car out of it's element isn't going to do well. The Prius was designed to cruise at 40mph around town and the M3 was designed to go much faster than a Prius could ever go on the track and around town. So, which is better really? I guess it depends on your priorities.

awesome. I've been telling a friend for a while now that the way he drives, a prius would get crap mileage.

To stir the pot even further I will bet that with both cars at 65mph the Vette gets better milage.

the comparison was pretty funny. it does explain that they way u drive helps with gas mileage, but the prius was not built to go all out on a track. lol

i loved this comparo!

i'd bet the points on the vette are all true. the 4 cylinder in the s2k is pretty thirsty imo unless you drive it slow. we do better than the sti/evos though.

I'll take you up on that anytime...I'm usually up at Putnam Park pretty often - I'm not sure if thats in your neck of the woods, but if it is, then lets do it, and put some money on it just to make things interesting.

I get 12mpg driving my S on the track.

I got 7.1 mpg driving a Z06 on the track.

Even if a C6 only had to 'keep up' there would be no way it would get better gas mileage. Just my 2cents of course, but I'm willing to put it to the test.

The M3 did get a slight slip stream by driving behind the Prius. I'm sure this affected the results, albeit slightly. Either way, the results aren't surprising. You drive a vehicle like you stole it while gingerly driving another and you'll see the difference in MPG.

I know right! The vette's the best thing in motorsport since the invention of the internal combustion engine.

I guess it depends upon the track and driver. I consistantly got 8 mpg on the track... three differnet tracks and dozens of events over four years.

As for street driving, my s2000 and my son's C6 get about the same mileage.
