well, engineered for maximum performance will automatically be loud?
Yes.
There are many well engineered exhausts that aren't as loud as they can be, and most of those perform better than a backyard hack job which will rattle the entire parking lot, but take the same engineering and open it up a bit more and you'll get more performance out of it.

Well i suppose it depends on what you mean by Dual exhaust. The S2000 does not have a true dual exhaust.

[QUOTE=QUIKAG,Oct 27 2008, 10:50 AM] I had the Buddy Club Spec III exhaust or whatever it was on my old '05 S2000.

Loud exhausts typically make more power because they offer less restriction.

the engine is an airpump...more in and more out means more power means increased speed in less time...the duals look cool and allow can allow more power....and perhaps conotate high performance under the hood.

noise is another issue and simply a matter or choice on public roads. on our cars i suppose we could get by with a single outlet, but i like the looks of the twin pipes honda provided.

what are some examples of "true dual" exhausts?

as a second part, whats better about the dual exhaust we have (not sure proper term) but a header that leads to a single exhaust route that splits, as compared to a single

You've answered your own question. A true dual exhaust system doesn't converge into one pipe then split after the cat. I've never seen a true dual exhaust on an inline 4 because true dual requires 2 exhaust manifolds or 2 headers, not just one. Although I've seen some "true dual exhausts" for the 350Z that is two seperate pipes from the headers back then converging into one huge muffler.

I always thought our s2k's had 2 mufflers so that each muffler can be less restrictive for better top end power and still not make too much noise. Just my own personal uneducated guess.
