I believe that the Cooper-S only comes in manual, but the normal Coopers come in auto.. I'll double check though just to make sure..

Tell her to get the normal Mini Cooper, and opt for the Sport Package.. It has an auto/steptronic transmission.. Other good auto car to consider in the same price range is the RSX (base)

 

I cannot even imagine how slooooow an automatic "non-supercharged" mini cooper would be!!!! I took a stickshift mini cooper for a little ride and thought it was awful. I didn't want to piss of my brother-in-law so I only took it up to about 5000rpm, but blllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I think I am used to my Supercharged car.....4.6L is alittle more satisfying than 1.6L!
