The R32 needed 280HP... now if thats what it had, I would be all over it. But it doesn't.

I miss my old GTI VR6 but I couldn't really step up and spend 30k for essentially the same car I had just sold. Yes the suspension is different, its now AWD, and the front seats are nicer.. but everything else is just the same and 40hp extra doesn't cut it for me. 240hp in that pig is what the REGULAR GTi should have, not the R32. The biggest problem with this car is that it doesn't have any competition in its class here. In Europe there are plenty of cars that serve up some competition in that HP range.

Would I get one? Nope. I love the luxuries but i can live without them to have my Corvette roasting STi...

The VW R32 has gotten some pretty good reviews. I have seen them all, but only driven the EVO & STI. The interior of the VW is definitely nicer. The EVO interior is very cheply made, but I don't think it has any pretense on being a luxury car. I thought the STI rear seats were much smaller than the EVO & R32's (as my knees were rammed into the back of the front seat). The VW R32 does weigh quite a bit (from the review) given it has AWD. The gripe I would have against this car is that it is way too much. It is $7K over a comparably equipped VR6 GTI. If you can get a discount on it, then maybe with the VF engineering SC it will be able to keep up with the EVO & STI, it will supposedly give 350 hp.

The only problem with VF kits is power under the curve, or rather lack thereof...

I considered a VF kit for my VR6 after I noticed that 268 cams were not an answer for me. Hehe, those cams lowered my gas mileage, decreased low RPM performance significantly. All that for a little more top end and a nice v8 rumble...

So I listened to VF owners and from what I gathered from them... I could see that the best I was EVER gonna get outta the VR6 with this type of stuff was maybe a low 14.

So I started to piece together a turbo kit. Got a T3/4E, blow-off, fuel regulator, wastegate... just needed a manifold, piping and a chip to get started..... Nobody would sell me the chip... Tec3 meant rigging a throttle cable... Car got traded in for something more fun.

note the r32 is slower off line but from highspeed pulls it is quicker due to engine...
Ahem...BULLSHIT! It is slower at any speed. The STI would tear it a new ahole.

The VW R32 traps at around 95-97mph, that is enough for an Evo or STI to anally rape it. "Quicker due to engine..."
Btw, the R32 doesn't have the same skid pads as the STI and esp. Evo. Again, BULLSHIT! Please stop being so...nevermind...

[QUOTE]I agree, The Sti has 300 FP/T strait up. Its a bit higher at 4K rpm's vs. the R32's mid 2K range but still has under 250. I think it was R&T who did a lame comparison of acceleration in 6th gear with the evo, sti and R32 at 40mph to 60mph ad the R32 was slightly faster. At that point im thinking.. who the hell would be going 40mph in 4th gear in an STI in ANY situation? the Evo was actually shockingly slow

Like both the Evo and STI...considering buying an STI now, but I thought the EVO had better handling than the STI? I'm pretty sure of this, but I was never sure about the actual numbers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Evo and STI rock....not all that impressed with the R32, as it isn't something I'm in the market for (personal pref).

Rock on everyone!

yes, car and driver is now a bs publication...i love when people assume things....89g skidpad vs .90g...i think thats pretty close...misinformation truly is sad...here is the "ahem" numbers....this is a direct quote from car and driver...."even in top gear, the r32 pulls like an iditarod pack of huskies, deliverin 30-50 time of 8.4 seconds. The evo manages that rambl eiin 11.7, while the sti in 10.9"...my god, thats wait, the r32 is faster in that section..sorry i should stop being so....the sti could almost rip it a new one ....well it could in any other speed..but at least not all the time, it has all important ability to pull from 30-50 more.....the overweight "pig" has to be good at somethign i guess...
