Default R6 electrical issues

I don't know if this is in the right place or not, but my friend has a 2000 r6, and has had it for about 2 years. Just recently it has given him some problems.

When it starts it seems ok, but when he begins to drive it, after about a minute or so (quite random) all of the electrical items that are visible to him begin to flicker and after they do that for a little bit the bike bogs down, and he is unable to rev it up....then it dies. We have checked all of the wires that we can think of to make sure none of them are loose. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this issue?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Check the rectifier....practically all the symptoms you describe point to the failure of this $ 125.00 part. If you have a good hand-held electrical meter you can trace the problem.

I tend to agree with VFROOM.

In fact, I just replaced the regulator/rectifer in my Honda CBR1100 at 22k miles... about the norm for most CBR1100's. When these suckers start to go they no longer pass sufficient voltage from the bike's alternator to the rest of the bike and the battery then must provide the juice. As the battery begins to draw down the bike's electrical gauges -- tach, amps, gas -- all flake and then go dead just before the bike dies from lack of spark. Recharging or putting in a new battery will temporarily mask the regulator/rectifier problem until it is drawn down.

i had a suzuki gsxr750 that had smillar problems.

it was the generator, there one of 3 phases was partially dead. physical inspection of the generator coils showed burnt wires. the suzuki service manual had a trouble shoot procedure to go through, review the same for the r6.

the suzuki generator inspection was:
-while the bike is running at a constant rpm disconnect the generator wires. AC voltmeter ground to each phase should give 3 readings close to the same value ~60vac
