Default Range topping M3 w/ KERS

Words from our trusty German marketing machine: (GCZ.com)

"We will be doing something to runout the current E92 M3 as well as the E82 Coupe. But the M Division have managed to transplant the M5's KERS technology to the M3. With the E82 the E92 will be available in two versions one fully equipped with luxuries you would expect from the standard M3 or 135i Coupe and another more stripped out car for real performance enthusiasts.

The 1er will definitely be shown as a Concept Car in the not so distant future. The new 1er Sporthatch debuts mid 2011 with the World Premiere noted for the 2011 IAA Frankfurt , so the Coupe should debut about that time as well."

I dont know what they will call it but it better haul some serious ass. I'm talking 3's to 60mph and 11's in the quarter. How the hell are they going to execute this stored Kinetic Energy stuff?!?!?

Lighter+ More power+ Kers= BIG $$$, and BIG :-D

Wait until you guys see what they have in store for the 1series! I've waited so long and finally things are starting to slip thru the cracks. I refuse to post anything until it gets more concrete.

I always wondered why auto manufacturers couldn't use hydraulics or a big spring of some sort to capture energy as a car is decelerating at a stop sign/light. When the light goes green, the hydraulic pressure and/or spring "unwinds" and propels the car forward assisting the engine in acceleration.

Braking without energy capture is such a huge waste of energy. All it does is generate a lot of heat on the brake rotors which dissipates into the atmosphere.

Most KERS in F1 right now are rough versions of what we already get in the Prius and Insight, using batteries and such. Although there's reports of Williams developing a flywheel based system.

QUIKAG, people are looking at alternative technologies, but at the moment, batteries seem to be ideal in terms of cost and suitability for a hybrid.

don't get me wrong, i like the idea of a kers system on a street car, BUT i wonder if you'd get shocked when it's time to change the brakes, plus the cost of the brakes and rotors themselves, to me it's a car for people who have wheel barrows full of money when it's time to got in for service

"Are you digging that gigantic rear spoiler? Well, don't get too excited as its nothing more than a test piece to allow the engineers to easily adjust the available downforce at the rear. There's an extended air dam up front as well although it looks like it has a chance of showing up as a production piece. "

Why do you think people might get shocked when changing the brakes? People don't get shocked when changing the brakes on the Prius or Insight. And the brakes and rotors are just normal brakes and rotors, so the costs wouldn't be any higher.
