Default Recommendations for a reliable air compressor

My Craftsman air compressor died for reasons unknown so I need a new one. I mainly use an air compressor for topping off tires and occasionally sports equipment.

My requirements in order of most to least important:
- Reliable
- Can charge while car is in accessory mode
- Under $100
- Fast
- Quiet
- Available at Amazon

I'd appreciate any recommendations you have - thanks!

Bump in hopes of a suggestion or two.

The B&D Air Station has served me trouble-free for the last 7 years:

Bicycle tires, basketballs, inflatables, no problem. Car and SUV tires air up at a leisurely rate, but at least you avoid the hassle of having to fire up the big air compressor. Dual power source (AC / lighter plug), and comes with two filling adapters clipped to the bottom. Has dial on the gauge that shuts off the compressor when desired pressure (roughly) is reached. Built-in cord and hose management so the packaging is neat.

Been thinking about getting the following model. Great reviews, will fill up tires much more quickly, but clips directly to your battery and you'll have to start the car. Actually a good thing, since its high draw will likely blow your car's lighter fuse. The minutes you save might come in handy in, say, autocross situations.

I also have the B&D Air Station. I like the dual power feature and that it's a tidy package (lives in the storage area of my wife's CR-V and fits nicely in my truck when I go Autocross).

As noted; it is slow. My other complaint is that the built in gauge is a little off.

I've been thinking about one of the cheap Harbor Freight pancake compressors to leave out in the garage. It should fill faster and I won't have to "unpack" the B&D unit as often.

Do you just need a compressor or a tank? Can you get Sears to replace yours?

For AutoX, I've been using a Craftsman one that has a built in battery or can operate off of DC or AC too for more than 10 years. Being battery-powered, it's nice not having to plug it in to power for a quick top-off or pressure adjustment.

I don't think they sell my old model anymore, but this looks like a much fancier version and is the same price as my less sophisticated one was many years ago:

Direct cut and paste link:
Code:

Not available from Amazon though, only Sears.

I use this one and am reasonably happy with it: http://www.amazon.com/Campbell-Hausfeld-FP2028-Compressor-Accessory/dp/B000BOCBAM

I'm looking for an air compressor - like the ones suggested in the previous posts. Even if Sears did agree to replace it, I already tossed the broken one!

I found the original receipt and I bought it in 2007 for $40. Hopefully, this new one will last me at least that long.

Your point about the blown fuses is well taken. I chose the Viair 88P based on your comments and the reviews on Amazon. Thanks again!
