It would be interesting to note the tires on each of the test cars.

Maintenance on a Gallardo far worse than an F430? I'll be the first to admit I have no experience but I don't see how. Both are quite high strung. A Gallardo is going to be hard on the clutch due to AWD but Ferrari isn't exactly known for making cars that can handle a beating like that either.

If you aren't launching the Gallardo at every light, I imagine it'll be fine. Problem is, most people are using them exactly that way - hard, fast driving every time they take them out (once a week)...

I agree on one thing, though - clutch replacement is probably $10K or more.
It's not the cost, but the fact that Lambo's tend to be more maintenance intensive than the new Ferraris. That's pretty much what I have seen at the high end shops I have been to. The new Ferraris are pretty good when it comes to reliability. I have seen (and has been mentioned several times in different stories) the Lambos are notorious for clutch failures.

good catch, YBS1. the Ferrari and lambo had competition rubber, while the rest had street tires. Considering the differnce between the cars was splitting hairs at that performance level, it is obvious how it would have come out, at least the bottom two finishers, if they had all been running track rubber. But i'm sure the folks at R&T would pull some lame excuse like "We just drove them as delivered, it isn't our fault" :/ They could have mentioned the Italians needed that kind of skin to stand a chance, instead of pretending the Ferrari "just naturally" performed above it's level.

Good point. I mean if less than 2 grand of damn good tires for each of the contenders would totally change the order around, I think they should do it to not be unfairly biased.

When I put race rubber on my C5 with a track alignment, it made a WORLD of difference in handling over the stock run-flat crap tires while running at the road courses (or circuits as some of you riceboys put it) in the area.

Wow - that is a difference I didn't catch and it's pretty significant. Alrighty - who's going to write into R&T to complain? How about we all send the same letter, with different signatures?

For those too lazy to look, the F430 and Gallardo had Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires - a DOT legal competition tire.
