for that price you can build a Factory Five GTM.

i guess my next car will be the GTM then...35K is the budget.

I don't mind.

I don't care especially about a 1/4 mile time. I was thinking about a GTi/Si or MS3 which all have the downside of being FWD.

I know the 135i is going to be quicker, it will be interesting to see. But IMO 1/4 mile time is such a minor aspect of a car.

I have never raced another car and I don't think it's important so long as the car is not a slug and low-5s is not a slug IMO.

Rai, I think your missing why the EVO guys are dissapointed. Take a brief jump onto their forums and see why. Evo's were all about their speed and handling. When another version comes out its suppose to be enhance both those characteristics. Or at least have them both stay the same. When I see an EVO in my rear view mirror I know not to mess around. As of next year, that will change when I'm in my 135i

Imo, the X is much better-looking than the previous generations. Before you condemn its 1/4mi speed, here are some quotes you "dragsters" need to consider:

"...don't judge the MR strictly by its straight-line numbers - the Evo X is much faster along a curving road than the old car."
[QUOTE]"...you'll be glad to know that the Evo X drives like nothing else in the world.

[QUOTE=kumainu,Sep 26 2007, 04:49 PM] Imo, the X is much better-looking than the previous generations. Before you condemn its 1/4mi speed, here are some quotes you "dragsters" need to consider:

"...you'll be glad to know that the Evo X drives like nothing else in the world. You simply point the car where you want to go, and the various elements of the all-wheel-drive system sort out how to make it happen."

Those are the perspectives from the C&D testers. You condemn the car for being a few tenths of a second slower in the 1/4mi, but it's an incredible feat to have made the car handle even better than the previous cars, the the previous cars were excellent handlers to begin with.

Imo, this X is better-looking, more refined, safer, with a trade-off of a few tenths of a second, that's a winning formula to me.

Oh, the X's engine is also turbocharged, it can make more power with just a fart if the owners so desire.
Its been a while since the two of us got into it...here goes...

The mitsubishi EVO series have never been about refinement. I dont know how many EVO drivers you encountered or if you know how much image that name have behind it. Almost every EVO i've encountered wanted to give me a taste. A lot of them are a-holes(no offense to s2kpdx and others on here). For this car to fail at acceleration is a major blow. I do agree with you that it looks much better.

Many people would rather start moddying a car that hits 60 in 4.7 than a car that hits it in 5.0-5.4 Am I wrong here??? Yes it handles better but its already been written by 3 diff rags that the car isnt as communicative as the last gen.

That stock EVO rolling off the dealer lot better watch out for that stock Pontiac Soltice GXP or IS350.

Well, the U.S. market dictates they want a more refined car, and Mitsu complied. That's what I think.

Making power with this EVO shouldn't be much of a problem, but having a better-handling car means more capability at the track. Even though this X may be slightly slower but I think it can take the older ones on most tracks.

Personally, I'd much rather have this more refined, better-looking, better-handling, but slightly slower, EVO X than the previous ones. And making more power shouldn't be much of a problem either.

^^^I agree that the U.S. market dictates they want more refined cars in general but when it comes to the EVO I think that logic is very flawed. If they want to make it more refined then it should ditch the boy racer look also. It isnt a Grand Tourer like an M3 or need to be refined like the porsche. It only ever needed to do 2 things!!
